The ISS Mimic project achieved several notable accomplishments, including the construction of15 scaled models at 0.5% size (Mini Mimics) and three scaled models at 1% size (Big Mimics). A total of 501 students were directly engaged in hands-on activities involving design (CAD), manufacturing, additive manufacturing, coding, assembly, and troubleshooting as part of a curriculum developed specifically for this initiative. Beyond this direct engagement, the project reached over 3,000 additional teachers and students across the U.S. through school showcases, science fairs, STEM nights, and other extracurricular events where the ISS Mimic was proudly exhibited. Furthermore, 26 teachers received training via Google Classroom, and 10 additional teachers participated in in-person Summer Institutes.
The ISS Mimic was featured in sessions at the 2024, 2025, 2026 Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC) and the 2024 and 2025 Space Port Area Conference for Educators (SPACE). Through these sessions, over 120 teachers were directly engaged with the ISS Mimic’s hands-on building activities and curriculum. Additionally, the project’s presence at conference booths across all four events expanded its outreach, reaching approximately 2,000 teachers and attendees. The ISS Mimic project was also featured at other conferences across the U.S. in 2024, including Maker Faire, Open Sauce, Comicpalooza, ISSR&D, special events at Space Center Houston, further expanding the project’s outreach well beyond traditional educator events to reach students and the public at large, with these events totaling 75,000+ attendees.
